TICKETED BREAKFAST       “The Princess and the Frog” – Sonja Bryer, Doll Artist  

Join the Ohio Valley Doll Collectors Club for a lovely breakfast featuring Doll Artist Sonja Bryer and based on the fairy tale The Frog Prince. Sonja's stunning Princess is a Pincushion Half Doll made of Resin with fully extended arms. Her molded hair is in an up-swept fashion and is her crowning glory.  The Princess' pincushion is poised by the lake waiting to kiss the ugly green frog who is cursed by an evil spell.  A delightful program will be presented by Becky Funderburg.      $105.00       Limit 42

PROGRAM        “Japan Comes to Michigan” – Alan Pate, Presenter

Alan Scott Pate, a noted authority on the history of Japanese dolls, will present a visual exploration of the Japanese Friendship Dolls of 1927 with a special focus on Michigan’s doll, Miss Ibaraki.      FREE

WORKSHOP    “Red Leather Shoes for Huret” – Sophie Pearson, Presenter

Using a shoe last, students will fashion leather shoes for the Huret (on the resin body).  Students should bring sharp scissors to cut leather.  All other materials will be provided.

PROGRAM    “Gene and Friends” – Reba D. Hood. Presenter

Reba Hood, our resident Gene expert will lead participants on a fascinating journey through the world of the extraordinary Gene Marshall and doll companions, Violet Waters, Madra Lord and Trent Osborne.        FREE

The Ann Arbor Doll Collectors Club proudly presents a luncheon featuring celebrated doll artist Susan Fosnot.  Susan, whose work is influenced by the cloth dolls of the 19th century has designed a new nine-inch doll.  Each doll will have a different face representing ethnic children of the world.      $235.00       Limit 25

PROGRAM “Magical Thinking” Steiff’s Fairy Tale Treasures – Rebekah Kaufman, presenter 

Rebekah Kaufman, Archivist for Steiff, North America, will give participants a playful look at Steiff’s fairy-tale inspired creations from 1900s through 1980s including fascinating backstories on several that almost didn’t come to be!       FREE

 WORKSHOP "Bleuette Red Riding Hood Costume" - Christine Bridy, Presenter

Christine Bridy will direct her participants (Little Mamans) in a unique project that replicates an original Bleuette costume from the GL 1921-22 Catalog. Participants will hand sew a striped skirt, a white blouse and apron and a red vest and cap.  Students should bring a basic small sewing kit that includes red and white fine thread and sharp sewing scissors.  A kit for all other materials will be provided.   $35.00   Limit 20

PROGRAM     The “Other” Russian Dolls – Linda Holderbaum, Presenter

Everyone is familiar with the nested Russian dolls, but a vast array of other types of dolls were produced in Russia from 1900 through the 1980s.  Taping into 50 plus years of experience, Holderbaum will take participants on an adventure of discovery as they examine the history and costumes of these bisque, stockinette, composition and plastic creations.     FREE

The Queen City Doll Club of Cincinnati asks you to join them for a breakfast centered around the little known Grimm’s fairy tale, Snow White and Rose Red, featuring charming dolls by Madame Alexander.  Guests will receive either the Snow White or Rose Red doll.  A fascinating program will be presented by Mary Ann Duffield, Past President of Madame Alexander Doll Club. Sorry, This event is sold out

PROGRAM     “Basics for Wig Making – Jennie Sykes, Presenter

Join Jennie Sykes as she shares over 20 years’ experience in wig making and repair.   Learn how to properly measure your doll’s head for wig making and tricks to making a wig cap. Discussions include how to choose appropriate materials and suggestions in how to construct the wig to achieve different styles.      FREE

WORKSHOP    “Creating a Portrait Style Face for a Cloth Doll” – Susan Fosnot, Presenter

Learn from a master as you create two faces for an eleven inch toddler using water color pencils and pigma pen.  Susan emphasizes that these materials are easy to handle and quick to use yet create subtle shadows and expressive eyes. Susan will provide the line work for one face and attendees will create the second themselves.  No experience needed.

Students should bring “clear eyes, a sharp mind and a steady hand” everything else will be provided.       $105.00       Limit 15

WORKSHOP    Half Doll Candy Box – Cynthia Orgeron,  Presenter

In a fun and simple workshop, students will create a charming candy box accented with gems and lace and topped with the torso of a 19th Century maiden.  All materials will be supplied.

PROGRAM     Sewing for 12” French Fashion Dolls – Sophie Pearson, Presenter

Learn the fabrics and methods used to create those fabulous French doll fashions.  In addition, Sophie will discuss methods for reproducing real life fashions for a doll.     FREE

TICKETED LUNCH  “The Light Princess”  Robert Tonner, Doll Artist

 Region 12 Director Cindy Nichols Bailey and Bailey Trucking, Inc., cordially invites you to a luncheon based on a fairy tale from the book “The Light Princess” written by Scottish author George MacDonald (1824-1905).  The story is about a baby princess that is cursed at birth to everlasting weightlessness by a spiteful witch.  She has many adventures into adulthood, and finally finds her true love. The event’s souvenir doll is by Robert Tonner, and his delightful version of the Nancy Ann Storybook doll, through Phyn & Aero.

Learn to identify the many faces of the beautiful French dolls as Cynthia Orgeron  shares her expertise in this fascinating program on how to identify points of difference in manufacturing and facial details.    FREE

2:00 – 5:00 PM

WORKSHOP       Create a Felted Wool Hat for a 15 – 16” Antique or Reproduction Fashion Doll  Jennie Sykes, Presenter

Students will learn how to block a felted hat and complete a pre-blocked hat in class finishing with millinery wire, binding and embellishments.

Students should bring a basic sewing kit with black thread and special items they wish to use for embellishments.  Instructor will provide pre-block hats, wire, silk binding, ribbons and embellishments.  $45.00       Limit 20

WORKSHOP     Ballerina Mannequin    Deborah Wilson, Presenter

In an utterly delightful workshop, award-winning costumer, Deb Wilson will guide students in the creation of a charming ballerina doll using a small artist’s mannequin.

Students should bring a basic sewing kit. All other materials will be provided.
